On a sweltering 90-plus degree Labor Day weekend, more than 75 golfers showcased their green skills in the Alabama State University National Alumni Association, Inc. (NAA) vs. Tuskegee Association for Student Success (TASS) Labor Day Classic Golf at the Lagoon Park Golf Course. After six hours of dry heat and sweat, the NAA team was victorious over Tuskegee for the overall team trophy and individual awards.
Built as a friendly and competitive shootout as a prelude to the Saturday football game between the two HBCU's, the NAA team consisting of alumni, friends, fans and supporters, swept all awards in the men and ladies’ competition. In the men division, Jestin Jackson and Donell Harris won first place with a 66-low score; and Michael and Chris Fowler took second place with a 69 score. In the ladies division, Doris Chambers and Eva Randolph low score of 74 took first place, followed by Margaret Wright and Corrine Russell in second place with an 80 score.
A big "thank you" to the NAA alumni chapters, businesses, and donors whom participated with more than 30 golf hole signs, golf towels, and goodie bag items. A special "thank you" to the ASU alumni volunteers and NAA executive officers whom were present to make the tournament a success. The NAA team set the tone on a winning note as a prelude to the Hornets winning over Tuskegee on Saturday "In Our House".
